INDUSTRY: Arts & Culture

ABOUT THE CLIENT: The Dora Maar Cultural Center, founded in 2007 by Texas heiress Nancy Negley at the former Ménerbes home of French surrealist Dora Maar, offers one to two month residencies for mid-career artists and humanities professionals. The program provides dedicated time, space, and support for Fellows to advance and deepen their creative or scholarly work.

DELIVERABLES: Logo, business cards, stationary, collateral, color palette, and typography guidelines.

THE DESIGN: This design draws on Dora Maar’s surrealist legacy and her transformative years in Ménerbes, where she reclaimed her artistic identity after a turbulent decade with Pablo Picasso. I wanted the visuals to evoke artists deeply immersed in their craft, but with a subtle surreal edge that honors Maar’s vision. Motifs of the eye, musical notation, and the written word reference a handful of the arts explored by Fellows in their residencies, creating a surreal visual language that celebrates expression and creative exploration. Through these fun, inviting pamphlets and booklets, potential donors will read inspirational artist testimonials, learn the history of the Dora Maar Cultural Society, and ruminate on the many perks of becoming a member.
